Guys & Dolls to be 2012 Blue Water summer show!
Considered by many of our actors to be their favorite month of the year, Blue Water's summer theatre camp is an experience unlike any other in the Twin Cities. In just over three weeks, our kids put together an entire show through a rigorous schedule of acting, singing and dancing that runs daily from 9:00-4:00. This year's camp will begin on Monday, July 2 and culminate in three performances on July 26, 27 and 28.
Following on the heels of last year's extraordinarily popular production of Anything Goes, we are excited to announce that this year's summer show is Guys & Dolls. This classic musical, based on the short stories of Damon Runyon, is one of most popular shows in the history of Broadway.
The story follows the tale of a group of gamblers, led by the infamous Sky Masterson, who descend on the Save-a-Soul Mission in New York after identifying it as the ideal place for their illegal crap game. Sky's attempts to woo Miss Sarah Brown, the head of the mission, in an attempt to distract her from their plan go awry when he winds up developing real feelings for her.
Among the other characters is a down-on-his-luck gambler named Nathan Detroit, who is constantly being pressured by his fiancee of fourteen years, Miss Adelaide, to lead a straight and respectable life.
Filled with some of the best show-stopping songs in Broadway history, including "Luck Be a Lady," "I've Never Been in Love Before," and "Sit Down You're Rockin' the Boat," Guys & Dolls is an incredibly exciting show for cast and audience alike..
Auditions for Guys & Dolls will begin May 14, and will be open to students who are currently in grades six through twelve. For detailed information please download the Guys & Dolls Info Packet. This packet contains everything you need to know about the production, as well as some permission slips and other forms that need to be filled out and returned at the time of your audition. If you have any questions about the production, please contact Charlie Leonard.
Note: This production of Guys & Dolls replaces our previously announced production of Crazy for You. That show has been postponed to a future date.
