Auditions for DAMN YANKEES begin March 6; Performances set for June
Damn Yankees tells the story of Joe Boyd, a middle-aged baseball fanatic who is a long-suffering fan of the Washington Senators*. In a moment of desperation, Joe trades his soul to the Devil (Mr. Applegate) for a chance to lead his favorite team to a victory in the pennant race against the hated New York Yankees. He magically becomes a baseball sensation known as Joe Hardy, and transforms the hapless Senators into a winning team, only to later realize the true worth of the life that he left behind.
This delightful show combines what many consider to be the greatest American art form (the Broadway musical) with our National Pastime (baseball). Besides having excellent lead and supporting roles for both men and women, it’s an excellent ensemble show with entertaining musical numbers that calls for a cast of all ages. This is one of those shows that is purely out for fun!
