Thank you to everybody who auditioned for our upcoming production of Birds of Paradise.
The cast is as follows:
Homer = Ben Sanford
Marjorie = Julia Zook
Julia = Morganna Oberdorfer
Dave = Jack Carranza
Hope = Marie Peterson
Stella = Julia Hoover
Andy = Moses Ekel
Lawrence Wood = Jack Olson
Assistant Director = Zach Schnitzer
The full cast should plan to meet at BWTC for a read-through on Monday, August 6 from 5:00-9:30. Please bring your personal calendars, as we do need to make some adjustments to the posted rehearsal schedule.
*****As a personal note to those of you who didn’t make the show — given that you were all BWTC veterans — THANK YOU. You were all wonderful. Obviously, with a cast of just eight people we were unable to cast you all, and some of you were cut for possibly the very first time. Do know that in nearly every case the decision was made based on either conflicts (everybody had conflicts — including those cast — but some were easier to work around than others) or relative age with regards to the other actors you would be playing opposite. I’m very proud of the work that you all did, and can’t wait to get you back on stage soon — hopefully this fall! — Charlie*****
We are pleased to announce auditions for our upcoming production of Birds of Paradise, set to run from September 6 through September 9, 2018.
The Harbor Island Players is an amateur theatre group whose lives are turned upside down when a down-on-his-luck professional actor offers to direct and star in one of their productions: a musical version of Chekhov’s The Seagull. As they rehearse, their egos and passions start to mirror the characters that they play. The approach of opening night drives everyone into a fever pitch until a sudden plot twist makes them all reevaluate their choices, both onstage and in life.
Directed by: Charlie Leonard
Choreographer: Grace Aiello
Music Director: Kirsten Hoiseth Thayer
AUDITIONS: Auditions are open to all student actors who will be in high school (grades 9 through 12) during the upcoming school year. Actors who wish to audition should sign up for a 15-minute audition slot at one of the following times:
Saturday, July 28 from 10:00-2:00
Sunday, July 29 from 7:00-9:00
Thursday, August 2 from 12:00-2:00
Friday, August 3 from 2:00-4:00
Actors may sign up for an audition by clicking HERE.
For their audition, actors should prepare a 16-bar selection from the Broadway song of their choice, to be sung a cappella. They should also prepare a 1-2 minute comedic monologue. In addition, each actor must fill out and bring with them an “Actor Information Sheet” and “Rehearsal Conflict Sheet,” which can both be downloaded by clicking HERE. Please note that a parent signature is required in order to be considered for the production.
If you would like to audition for the show, but are unable to attend any of the scheduled audition times, please get in touch with Charlie Leonard to make alternative arrangements.
CASTING: There are eight roles in this production; four women and four men. There is no ensemble. The final cast list will be posted on the BWTC web site by noon on Sunday, August 5.
REHEARSALS: Rehearsals will begin on Monday, August 6. They will generally take place from 5:00-9:30 or 10:00-3:00 on weekdays (Monday through Friday) through Wednesday, September 5. While we may be able to accommodate some conflicts early in the production, the nature of the show will require all actors to be at most rehearsals — especially as we lead up to the performances.
PERFORMANCES: Birds of Paradise will have four performances: Thursday, September 7 at 7:00pm; Friday, September 8 at 7:00pm; Saturday, September 9 @ 7:00pm, and Sunday, September 10 @ 4:00pm.
LOCATION: All auditions, rehearsals, and performances will be held at Blue Water Theatre Company in Wayzata, Minnesota (605 Rice Street East).
PRODUCTION FEE: The fee for an actor to take part in this production is $295, which is due by the first rehearsal on Monday, August 6. Those payments can be made by check or credit card, via a secure online payment site that will be emailed to parents once the show has been cast.
Scholarships may be available to families who need them. In order to apply for a scholarship, please contact Sarah Irwin (BWTC’s Managing Director). Please note that in order to be considered for a scholarship, Sarah must have your application on file before you show up to audition. We have a limited number of scholarships that we can give out for each show, and we may not be able to honor requests that are made after a show has been cast.
QUESTIONS: If you have any questions about the production, or about BWTC in general, please contact Charlie Leonard (BWTC’s Artistic Director).
