THANK YOU to everybody who auditioned for our upcoming production of Curtains. We had one of our largest turnouts of kids for a fall show in BWTC history and, consequently, we had a lot of difficult decisions to make.
If you were cast, please report to BWTC for our first rehearsal on Monday, September 17 from 7:00-9:30pm. Plan to be at BWTC for rehearsal both Monday, September 17 and Tuesday, September 18. A schedule for the Thursday, September 20 and Saturday, September 22 rehearsals is forthcoming.
Please bring with you to rehearsal a pen, pencil, or highlighter (you will get to keep your scripts this time around, so you can — and should — write all over them). On that note, please disregard the mention (below) in the original show info about the $25 script deposit. That will not apply this time around, as this particular publisher does not require us to return the materials at the end of the production.
We will be doing a lot of sitting on the hard stage floor doing a read-through on Monday, so if a pillow and/or blanket would make you more comfortable, go for it.
The cast list can be viewed by clicking HERE. Please note that it is two pages, so depending on your screen, you may have to scroll down to get all the way to the end.
Besides assigned characters, we have also assigned understudies. They are indicated by a notation in italics such as “u/s for _________“. Understudies should report to all the rehearsals for which their understudied character has been called.
Please contact Charlie Leonard if you have any questions.
We are excited to announce that this fall we will be bringing one of our all-time BWTC favorites back to the stage! We first presented Kander & Ebb’s positively delightful musical comedy CURTAINS back in 2009. Now, nearly a decade later, we are thrilled to be sharing it with our audiences once again.
It’s the brassy, bright, and promising year of 1959. Boston’s Colonial Theatre is host to the opening night performance of a new musical. When the leading lady mysteriously dies on stage, the entire cast and crew find themselves to be suspects. Enter a local detective, who just happens to be a musical theatre fan!
Auditions are open to student actors who will be in high school or middle school (grades 6 through 12) during the upcoming 2018-2019 school year. Actors who wish to audition should come to their choice of one of the following three audition times:
- Monday, September 10 from 7:00-9:30
- Tuesday, September 11 from 7:00-9:30
- Thursday, September 13 from 7:00-9:30
Actors do not need to prepare anything for their audition, but they must complete and have a parent/guardian sign the Curtains Actor Information & Conflict Sheet and turn it in at their audition. Please note that this form requires information on some specific dates related to school music concerts and other activities that may necessitate a bit of research on your part if you do not have the information at your fingertips.
Callbacks for select actors will be held on Saturday, September 15 from 9:00-11:30 in the morning. A list of actors who are needed at callbacks will be posted on this page by noon on Friday, September 14.
The final cast list will be posted by noon on Sunday, September 16. We expect to cast around 35 actors in this production.
Rehearsals will begin with a full-cast read-through on Monday, September 17. With a few exceptions (please refer to the conflict sheet for the exact schedule), we will generally rehearse at the following times:
- Mondays from 7:00-9:30pm
- Tuesdays from 7:00-9:30pm
- Thursdays from 7:00-9:30pm
- Saturdays from 9:00-4:00pm
Not all actors will be needed at every rehearsal, especially for the first month or so of the production. A schedule for the upcoming week will be emailed out to the actors each Sunday afternoon.
We will have four dress/tech rehearsals and seven performances, at which attendance is mandatory except in extremely rare circumstances. Those dates & times are as follows:
- Monday, November 26 from 5:00-9:30
- Tuesday, November 27 from 5:00-9:30
- Wednesday, November 28 from 5:00-9:30
- Thursday, November 29 from 5:00-9:30
- Friday, November 30 @ 7:00pm
- Saturday, December 1 @ 7:00pm
- Sunday, December 2 @ 2:00p
- Friday, December 7 @ 7:00pm
- Saturday, December 8 @ 1:00pm
- Saturday, December 8 @ 7:00pm
- Sunday, December 9 @ 2:00pm
The fee for an actor to take part in this production is $355, which is due to BWTC by Thursday, September 20, unless alternate arrangements have been made. Those payments can be made by check or by credit card via a secure online payment site that will be emailed to parents and posted on this page once the show has been cast.
In addition, actors will be required to bring a separate cash/check deposit of $25 to the first rehearsal in order to be issued a script. That same $25 will be given back to the actor at the conclusion of the run in December, once their script has been successfully returned.
Scholarships are available to families who need them. In order to apply for a scholarship, please contact Sarah Irwin (BWTC’s Managing Director). Please note that in order to be considered for a scholarship, Sarah must have your application on file before you show up to audition. We have a limited number of scholarships that we can give out for each show, and we may not be able to honor requests that are made after a show has been cast.
