FIVE WOMEN WEARING THE SAME DRESS
During an ostentatious wedding reception at a Knoxville, Tennessee, estate, five reluctant, identically clad bridesmaids hide out in an upstairs bedroom, each with her own reason to avoid the proceedings below. They are Frances, a painfully sweet but sheltered fundamentalist; Mindy, the cheerful, wise-cracking lesbian sister of the groom; Georgeanne, whose heartbreak over her own failed marriage triggers outrageous behavior; Meredith, the bride’s younger sister, who hates her more than anyone; and Trisha, a jaded beauty whose die-hard cynicism about men is called into question when she meets Tripp, a charming bad-boy usher to whom there is more than meets the eye. As the afternoon wears on, these five very different women joyously discover a common bond in this wickedly funny, irreverent, and touching celebration of the women’s spirit.
Content Note: The play contains some profanity, and a discussion of sexual assault.
This play will be co-directed by BWTC senior actors Carly Joseph and Sophie La Fave.
REHEARSALS & PERFORMANCES:
Rehearsals will begin on Thursday, January 14, and run through February 6. They will generally take place on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 6:30-9:30pm, and Saturdays from 12:00-4:00pm. Rehearsals will be either in-person or virtually, depending on the needs of a particular rehearsal. It is expected that all actors are available for all rehearsal times; absences should be worked out in advance with the directors.
Dress/tech rehearsals will take place from 5:00-9:30 on February 8, February 9, February 10, and February 11 (Monday through Thursday). Attendance at all dress/tech rehearsals is mandatory.
Performances will take place at 7:00pm on Friday, February 12 and Saturday, February 13, and at 2:00pom on Sunday, February 14.
COVID-19:
Actors will be required to remain masked at all times during rehearsals and performances, unless state or federal health department guidelines change. To the greatest extent possible, social distancing will be observed, although participants must be realistic about the regular necessity of being in close contact with others.
Food of any kind is not allowed at rehearsals. If you must bring a snack of some sort, you will be asked to isolate on your own somewhere in the building (or go outside) to quickly eat it. Beverages are only allowed if they are carried in containers with straws, allowing you to sip from the straw under your mask without actually having to take your mask off.
The plan is for the show to be both performed in front of a small audience of about 30 guests (which is allowed as of the updated January 6 guidelines from the state), and also live-streamed to viewers at home. In the event that the guidelines change, and we are prevented from having an in-person audience, we will still live-stream the show to viewers at home.
PRODUCTION FEE:
The six actors cast in the show will pay a $95.00 production fee, due no later than Monday, January 18. Production fees can be paid either via check (there is a dropbox in the BWTC kitchen) or via an online payment link that will be provided once the show has been cast.
Scholarship funds are available to families who can demonstrate reasonable need. If you wish to inquire about a scholarship, please contact BWTC Office Manager Alison Haseman at alison.haseman@bluewatertheatre.com
