We are beyond excited to announce auditions for our upcoming production of Les Miserables: School Edition! This will be BWTC’s third time producing this show, and it has become unquestionably our most favorite performing tradition.
In nineteenth century France, Jean Valjean is released from years of unjust imprisonment, but finds nothing in store for him but mistrust and mistreatment. He breaks his parole in hopes of starting a new life, initiating a lifelong struggle for redemption as he is relentlessly pursued by police inspector Javert, who refuses to believe Valjean can change his ways. Finally, during the Paris student uprising of 1832, Javert must confront his ideals after Valjean spares his life and saves that of the student revolutionary who has captured the heart of Valjean’s adopted daughter.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO AUDITION, AND WHEN DO AUDITIONS TAKE PLACE?
Regular auditions for Les Miserables: School Edition are open to actors who are currently in grades 8 through 12 (2019-2020 school year). They will take place at the following times:
- Sunday, December 8 from 7:00-9:30pm
- Monday, December 9 from 7:00-9:30pm
- Tuesday, December 10 from 7:00-9:30pm
Actors who wish to audition should plan to come to their choice of one of those three audition sessions. Please sign up by clicking HERE so that we know who to expect on each evening. Please help us (and yourselves) out by doing your best to sign up for the audition session that has the fewest attendees, even if it means coming on a night different from all of your friends.
Callback auditions for select actors will take place on Thursday, December 12 from 7:00-9:30pm. A list of actors needed at callbacks will be posted on this page by 3:00pm on Wednesday, December 11. If you cannot attend the callback auditions, please make sure the directing team is aware of that at your first audition.
If you wish to audition for the show, but are unable to make any of the scheduled audition times, we would be happy to set up an individual audition or allow you to submit a video audition. Please contact Charlie Leonard ASAP if you need to make these arrangements. All first round auditions must be completed by midnight on Tuesday, December 10.
Those of you familiar with the show are aware that there are two roles for younger actors (Young Cossette and Gavroche). A separate call will be made for elementary and/or middle school actors for those roles. Please stay tuned to our website and social media pages for announcements about that. Those will likely take place after the regular auditions are concluded, although not necessarily.
UPDATE: Young people (boys or girls) ages 8 and up who are interested in auditioning for the role of Gavroche can find info by clicking HERE. Auditions are done via video submission, and must be completed by 7:00pm on Wednesday, December 11.
DO I NEED TO PREPARE ANYTHING FOR MY AUDITION?
All auditionees need to fill out the online “Les Miserables (2020) Actor Info & Conflict Form,” which can be accessed by clicking HERE. You will need to have your personal calendar handy in order to accurately complete the “conflict form” portion of the document. This form must be completed by the time you audition in order for you to be considered for the cast of the show. Please note that a parental “e-signature” is required.
When you audition for BWTC shows, we do not generally ask you to prepare anything ahead of time. Your Les Miserables audition will be a singing audition only, and we will teach you the musical selections as a group at the audition before we give you the opportunity to sing individually. However — we might make the decision to post the audition selections ahead of time so that people can familiarize themselves with the material — especially if a large number of people sign up to come. If that happens, those selections will be posted right here on this page — so please check back several times ahead of your audition.
WHEN ARE REHEARSALS?
Regular rehearsals will begin on Tuesday, December 17, and will generally follow this schedule through Saturday, February 8:
- Mondays from 7:00-9:30pm
- Tuesdays from 7:00-9:30pm
- Thursdays from 7:00-9:30pm
- Saturdays from 9:00-4:00pm
There is an additional rehearsal scheduled for 7:00-9:30pm on Sunday, December 29 to account for some missed rehearsals due to holiday conflicts.
The complete rehearsal schedule can be found in the online “Les Miserables (2020) Actor Info & Conflict Sheet.” Again, please note that that online form must be completed prior to your audition.
