As a reminder to all who auditioned, this is a small-cast show and the competition is very tough. If we ultimately do not cast you in this production, we do hope to see you in about six weeks when we hold auditions for our “big” spring mainstage musical. Look for a show announcement in mid-January.
We are excited to announce that this winter we will be bringing to the BWTC stage Stephen Sondheim’s masterpiece Sunday in the Park with George.
Inspired by the painting A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La GrandeJatte by Georges Seurat, Sunday in the Park with George merges past and present into beautiful, poignant truths about life, love and the creation of art. One of the most acclaimed musicals of our time, this moving study of the enigmatic painter won a Pulitzer Prize and was nominated for an astounding ten Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
The days leading up to the completion of his most famous painting, A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte, Georges Seurat is struggling to make meaningful art and maintaining a relationship with his lover, Dot. Amid the scorn of the artistic community, Seurat’s artistic ability thrives while his love diminishes. A century later, Seurat’s descendant – named George and also an artist – finds himself burnt out and in search of what artistic path to follow, but he finds the answer to his future in the past.
Auditions are open to student actors who are currently in grades 8 through 12. Actors who wish to audition should come to their choice of one of the following two audition times:
- Tuesday, December 11 from 7:00-9:30
- Thursday, December 13 from 7:00-9:30
Actors do not need to prepare anything for their audition, but they must complete and have a parent/guardian sign the Sunday in the Park Actor Information & Conflict Sheet and turn it in at their audition.
Callbacks for select actors will be held on Sunday, December 16 from 6:00-8:30 in the evening. A list of actors who are needed at callbacks will be posted on this page by noon on Friday, December 14.
*NOTE* While 8th grade actors are eligible to audition for this production — and we do hope that some do — we do urge all 8th grade actors to also audition for our production of Seussical JR to give our directing team greater options on where to place you this winter. For information about that show, click HERE.
The final cast list will be posted by noon on Monday, December 17. We expect to cast only about 20 actors in this production, which is the size of the original Broadway cast.
Rehearsals will begin on Monday, December 17. With a few exceptions (please refer to the conflict sheet for the exact schedule), we will generally rehearse at the following times:
- Mondays from 7:00-9:30pm
- Tuesdays from 7:00-9:30pm
- Thursdays from 7:00-9:30pm
- Saturdays from 9:00-4:00pm
Not all actors will be needed at every rehearsal, especially for the first month or so of the production. A schedule for the upcoming week will be emailed out to the actors each Sunday afternoon.
We will have four dress/tech rehearsals and seven performances, at which attendance is mandatory except in extremely rare circumstances. Those dates & times are as follows:
- Monday, February 11 from 5:00-9:30
- Tuesday, February 12 from 5:00-9:30
- Wednesday, February 13 from 5:00-9:30
- Thursday, February 14 from 5:00-9:30
- Friday, February 15 @ 7:00pm
- Saturday, February 16 @ 7:00pm
- Sunday, February 17 @ 2:00p
- Friday, February 22 @ 7:00pm
- Saturday, February 23 @ 1:00pm
- Saturday, February 23 @ 7:00pm
- Sunday, February 24 @ 2:00pm
The fee for an actor to take part in this production is $355, which is due to BWTC by Thursday, December 20, unless alternate arrangements have been made. Those payments can be made by check or by credit card via a secure online payment site that will be emailed to parents and posted on this page once the show has been cast.
In addition, actors will be required to bring a separate cash/check deposit of $25 to the first rehearsal in order to be issued a script. That same $25 will be given back to the actor at the conclusion of the run in February, once their script has been successfully returned.
Scholarships are available to families who need them. In order to apply for a scholarship, please contact Sarah Irwin (BWTC’s Managing Director). Please note that in order to be considered for a scholarship, Sarah must have your application on file before you show up to audition. We have a limited number of scholarships that we can give out for each show, and we may not be able to honor requests that are made after a show has been cast.
